New Mexico’s diverse hydrology encompasses high-altitude alpine basins, volcanic craters, and massive engineering projects. This collection features the Blue Hole, an 80-foot deep artesian spring in Santa Rosa, and Williams Lake, situated high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. Major reservoirs like Elephant Butte and Conchas Lake offer extensive recreation, while Zuni Salt Lake provides a rare example of a high desert maar. These sites highlight the state's reliance on the Rio Grande and Pecos River systems for irrigation, flood control, and power generation.
