Hidden Gems of Serres
Beyond the urban center of Serres lie rare ecological sites and historical remnants concentrated in the Lailias mountain range. The region features the Sphagnonas bog, a unique peat moss ecosystem rare in Greece, alongside the Limnoula pond and secluded waterfalls. Historical interest is centered on the ruins of Banitsa (Karyes), the site of revolutionary Gotse Delchev's final battle in 1903, where a stone bell tower still stands among abandoned foundations.
Limne Ag. Ioanne
A small lake and waterfall area located in the suburb of Agios Ioannis, characterized by man-made cascades and established plane trees.
Karyes (Mpanitsa)
The ruins of an abandoned village containing a standing stone bell tower. It is historically significant as the site where Bulgarian revolutionary Gotse Delchev was killed in 1903.
