Iconic Dutch Windmills

This collection highlights the historic windmills of South Holland, centered around the UNESCO World Heritage site of Kinderdijk. These structures represent centuries of Dutch water management and industrial history, ranging from 18th-century drainage mills to 19th-century flour and grist mills. The list includes the intricate network of 19 mills at Kinderdijk, the specialized polder mills of Lisse, and several functional museum mills that demonstrate traditional milling techniques and original interior living quarters.

Museum Windmill Nederwaard

One of the two museum mills at Kinderdijk. Built in 1738, this brick ground-sailer allows visitors to explore the historical living quarters and internal machinery of a working drainage mill.

A gallery mill built in 1892, originally used for drainage in Scharmer. It was moved to the Keukenhof estate in 1957 and now serves as a viewpoint over the surrounding tulip fields.
