With its height of 55 metres, this building is the largest baptistery in Italy. Thanks to its shape, it has extraordinary acoustics, which is demonstrated every 30 minutes by a person on duty, who sings a few notes.
The structure of this building is quite extraordinary. The bottom half was built according to Romanesque architecture, while the upper half is Gothic. Worth mentioning is also the fact that Nicola Pisano was in charge of designing the pulpit. The year the pulpit was finished is considered the year Italian Renaissance started because Pisano was arguably the first sculptor in Italy who created reliefs and sceneries specific for that period of time (for example by using antique elements and similar).
You can get here from the Pisa San Rossore train station. Avoid buying souvenirs from sellers who don't have a license, because you might get fined for buying illegal merchandise.
