This cathedral, built in 1118, is one of Italy's most elegant buildings and cannot be missed when visiting the city.
This building is a true architectural gem, in and out. The Arab influence is visible on the outside facade, which is covered by white marble. The interior will leave you speechless, everything is decorated with a great attention to detail, and there are a few priceless art pieces adorning the cathedral. One of them is the famous statue Madonna with Child, but the Four Evangelists are just as worth mentioning. The duomo is also a home to the largest metal Islamic sculpture ever known - a replica of the Pisa Griffin.
The original doors of the building burned down during a fire in 1595 and were replaced by the enormous bronze doors that can be seen there today.
The monument is accessible for people in wheelchairs. Helpers for people with disabilities are admitted to the cathedral for free upon proving their identity with an ID card or an equivalent of it.
Opening hours vary. Please check the official website for more info.
The admission is free but you need to collect the fixed time free ticket.
