Reykjavík’s urban landscape is defined by its central gathering points. Austurvöllur Square serves as the city's political heart, situated directly in front of the Alþingi Parliament House and the National Cathedral. Nearby, Lake Tjörnin and the adjacent Suðurtjörn provide a habitat for over 40 species of birds, including swans and ducks. These water features are bordered by Hljómskálagarðurinn Park, known for its music pavilion and sculpture garden. Completing the central circuit is Ingólfstorg, a pedestrian-friendly cobblestone square that marks the site of the city's oldest settlement area.
