Chester City Walls

Chester's city walls represent the most complete Roman and medieval defensive system in Britain. This two-mile circuit follows the footprint of the Roman fortress Deva Victrix, established around 70 AD. The walk incorporates historic gateways like Eastgate and Bridgegate, medieval towers, and Victorian additions. Notable features include the 1897 Eastgate Clock and views of the River Dee. The red sandstone structures offer a chronological journey from Roman foundations through medieval fortifications to 18th-century promenades.
