Peaks and Glaciers

The Tröllaskagi Peninsula in Northern Iceland features some of the country's highest elevations outside the central highlands. This collection highlights the basaltic peaks and valley glaciers of Dalvíkurbyggð, specifically concentrated around Svarfaðardalur and Skíðadalur. These landforms, shaped by intense glaciation, consist of deep troughs and sharp ridges reaching over 1,000 meters, providing a rare landscape where alpine peaks meet the Greenland Sea.

Gljúfurárjökull

Valley glacier situated at the head of Skíðadalur, surrounded by the steep basaltic mountains characteristic of the Tröllaskagi Peninsula.

Hálsjökull

High-altitude glacier located in the central mountain range of the peninsula, feeding the glacial river systems of Svarfaðardalur.

Kirkjufjall

Prominent peak in the Svarfaðardalur region rising to approximately 1,000 meters. It is distinct from the more famous Kirkjufjall on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.
