Lika-Senj Essentials

Lika-Senj spans from the Adriatic coast to the Velebit mountains, home to the UNESCO-listed Plitvice Lakes and its sixteen terraced basins. The region preserves the 16th-century Nehaj Fortress in Senj and the birthplace of Nikola Tesla in Smiljan. Significant landmarks include the underground Željava Air Base, a Cold War-era military facility carved into the Gola Plješevica mountain, and the high-altitude karst landscapes of Northern Velebit National Park. Coastal areas feature the pebbly Zrće Beach on Pag island, known for its open-air clubs.
