Historic Churches & Chapels

Modra’s religious landscape is defined by the centuries-long coexistence of Roman Catholic and Lutheran traditions. This collection features the 14th-century Gothic Church of St. John the Baptist, the town's oldest sacral building, alongside the Neoclassical St. Stephen the King Church. The town’s Protestant history is represented by the side-by-side German and Slovak Evangelical churches. Smaller Baroque chapels, such as the Chapel of Our Lady of the Snows and the vineyard-set St. Urban’s Chapel, highlight the local architectural heritage and regional winemaking culture.
