Moura Essentials
Moura showcases the diverse heritage of Portugal’s Alentejo region, from the Iron Age ruins of Castro da Azougada to the 13th-century Convento de Nossa Senhora do Carmo. The town’s landscape is defined by the Alqueva Dam, Europe’s largest reservoir, which offers boat excursions from its marina and a dedicated interpretation center. Architectural highlights include the Manueline pillory and the Roman bridge over the Brenhas stream, while the surrounding nature features fossilized limestone pavements and the remote ruins of Convento da Tomina.

The Alqueva Dam is an arch dam and the centrepiece of the Alqueva Multipurpose Project.
Convento de Nossa Senhora do Carmo
Founded in 1251, this was the first Carmelite convent established in the Iberian Peninsula. It features a Manueline portal and a Renaissance cloister.
