Chiese a Uppsala

Historic Churches of Uppsala

This collection highlights the architectural and spiritual evolution of the Uppsala region, from the 12th-century stone foundations of Gamla Uppsala to contemporary Lutheran chapels. The list includes significant medieval parish churches known for their historical murals, the remains of a 13th-century Cistercian nunnery at Skokloster, and active monastic communities like Alsike kloster. These sites represent the heart of the Archdiocese of Uppsala and offer insight into Sweden's transition from medieval Catholicism to the Lutheran Reformation.
