Originally constructed in 1760 and later redesigned in 1788 by the artist Alexander Nasmyth, this structure is modeled after the Temple of Vesta (also known as the Sibyl's Temple) in Tivoli, Italy. Built over a natural mineral spring formerly sought for its health-giving waters, the well house consists of a domed roof supported by a colonnade of ten columns.
The interior features an ornate mosaic ceiling and a statue of Hygeia, the Greek goddess of health. The monument includes a refurbished mosaiced interior and stands as a notable example of 18th-century architecture.
