The Augustów Canal, a 19th-century engineering feat, connects the Vistula and Neman river basins through a system of manual locks and ribbon lakes. This route features historic 19th-century locks like Augustów, Przewięź, and Swoboda, which still operate using traditional methods. The surrounding glacial lakes, including Necko, Białe, and Sajno, provide a natural backdrop for the waterway, while Lake Studzieniczne is notable for its 18th-century wooden chapel situated on a peninsula.
