Berdorf Essentials

Berdorf serves as the gateway to the Mullerthal Region's most dramatic sandstone landscapes. This selection features the Hohllay and Raiberhiel caves, carved by both nature and historical millstone extraction, alongside the Priedegtstull and Perekop viewpoints. The 55-meter Aquatower offers an educational perspective on local geology, while the Wanterbaach cliffs provide the region's premier sandstone climbing. Cultural sites include the Breechkaul rock amphitheater and the historic Saint-Jean church.

Hohllay Cave

A man-made cavern created by centuries of millstone extraction. Circular traces of the harvested stones remain visible in the sandstone ceilings and walls.

Aquatower Berdorf

A 55-meter-high tower featuring an interactive exhibition about drinking water and geology. An observation deck provides 360-degree views of the surrounding Mullerthal region.

Priedegtstull

A prominent sandstone formation resembling a pulpit. It is accessible via bridges and steps, offering views over the valley toward Grundhof.

Perekop

A massive rock formation situated on the road between Berdorf and Echternach. Iron ladders lead to a panoramic viewpoint at the summit.

Amphithéatre Breechkaul

A natural rock hollow converted into an open-air theater in 1979. It is used for concerts and the annual Hubertus Mass.

Siewenschlueff

A series of seven narrow rock crevices known as the 'Seven Gorges.' A hiking path leads through the deep fissures to a plateau viewpoint.

Saint-Jean

Parish church containing a Roman 'four-god stone' beneath its altar, which depicts the deities Juno, Minerva, Hercules, and Apollo.

Burg Bollendorf

Former residence of the abbots of Echternach, built on Roman foundations. The current castle structure dates back to the 17th century.

Raiberhiel

A narrow, dark cave system and rock passage. The tunnel-like formation requires a flashlight to navigate through the sandstone.

Berdorf Wanterbaach Climbing Site

The primary rock climbing destination in Luxembourg, featuring approximately 150 routes across vertical sandstone cliffs.
