Best of Bicaz Canyon

This selection highlights the most significant geological formations within the Bicaz Canyon, a limestone gorge carved by the Bicaz River in the Hășmaș Mountains. The list features the 1,154-meter Piatra Altarului massif and the canyon's most constricted sections, including the series known as Hell's Throat, Hell's Gate, and Hell's Porch, where vertical cliffs reach heights of 300 meters along the passage between Transylvania and Moldavia.

Altar stone

A 1,154-meter-high limestone massif and the most prominent rock tower in the gorge, frequently used for technical rock climbing.

Canyon stone

Massive limestone peak located above the narrowest part of the gorge, situated opposite Piatra Altarului.

Cheile Bicazului
