Iconic Alpine Huts
This collection includes high-altitude Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) and private refuges throughout the Bernese Oberland. The list features the Mönchsjochhütte, Switzerland’s highest serviced mountain hut at 3,657 meters, and the modern Bäregghütte, rebuilt in 2006 near Grindelwald. These shelters, such as the stone-built Gelmerhütte and the remote Silberhornhütte at 2,663 meters, provide essential lodging for glacier tours and ascents of major peaks like the Jungfrau and Sustenhorn.
A Bäregghütte
A mountain lodge rebuilt in 2006 overlooking the Lower Grindelwald Glacier. It features a restaurant specializing in regional cuisine and an outdoor terrace with mountain views.
Bergli Hut
The Bergli Hut is a mountain hut of the Swiss Alpine Club, located south of Grindelwald in the canton of Bern.
Silberhornhütte SAC
A Swiss Alpine Club refuge situated at 2,663 meters on the northwest ridge of the Jungfrau. It is managed by the SAC Lauterbrunnen section.
Tierberglihütte SAC
Located at 2,795 meters above the Steinglacier, this SAC hut serves as a starting point for glacier treks and ascents of the Sustenhorn.
La Jonquille
An alpine hut located in the Jura region near Saint-Imier.
Gelmerhütte
A traditional stone SAC hut situated at 2,412 meters above the Gelmersee, frequently used by hikers on the Diechterhorn route.
Mönchsjochhütte
Switzerland’s highest serviced mountain hut at 3,657 meters. Located within a UNESCO World Heritage site, it is reachable via a marked glacier path from Jungfraujoch.

A mountain refuge located in the Hasliberg area near Meiringen.
