East Mani's religious landscape is defined by stone-built Byzantine and post-Byzantine structures that reflect the region's austere history. This collection includes significant sites like the 18th-century Moni Dekoulou, known for its role in the Orlov Revolt, and the high-altitude Moni Panagias Giatrissas on Mount Taygetos. The architecture typically features cross-in-square designs, barrel-vaulted single-aisle chapels, and traditional Maniot masonry, with many interiors housing well-preserved hagiographies and historic frescoes.
