Egerszalok Essentials

Egerszalók is defined by its rare geological formations and therapeutic waters. The centerpiece is the Salt Hill, a massive travertine mound formed by mineral-rich thermal springs, one of only three such sites in the world. Beyond the modern and retro spa complexes, the village preserves 17th-century tuff-carved cave dwellings and an ethnographic museum. The surrounding landscape features mysterious hive stones—volcanic rock pillars with ancient man-made niches characteristic of the Bükk Foothills.

A

Salt Hill

A rare travertine formation created by 65-68°C thermal water flowing down the hillside. It is a unique geological phenomenon similar to Pamukkale in Turkey and Yellowstone in the USA.

Egerszalók Gyógy- és Wellnessfürdő

Modern spa and wellness complex featuring 17 indoor and outdoor pools. The medicinal waters are rich in calcium, magnesium, and sulfur, surfacing from a depth of 410 meters.

Barlanglakások

Historical residential units carved into the soft volcanic tuff rock. These dwellings were inhabited from the 17th century until the mid-20th century.

Kaptárkő - Betyárbújó, Öreg-hegy

Distinctive volcanic rock formations on Öreg-hegy featuring ancient man-made niches. These 'hive stones' are significant archaeological and geological monuments of the Bükkalja region.

Nosztalgia fürdő

Retro-style thermal bath located adjacent to the main spa. It features three outdoor pools with varying temperatures, recreating the traditional bathing atmosphere of the 1970s and 80s.

An open-air ethnographic museum where restored cave homes display traditional tools, furniture, and local crafts from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Baroque Roman Catholic church built in 1738. It is a known pilgrimage site housing a miracle-working painting of the Virgin Mary.
