The Algarve coastline is defined by dramatic karst landscapes and extensive sandspits. To the west, limestone cliffs shelter secluded coves like Praia da Marinha and Praia do Camilo, known for their sea stacks and ochre-colored rock formations. Near Lagos and Portimão, the terrain transitions into wide stretches of golden sand. The eastern region, part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, features barrier island beaches and unique cultural sites like the anchor memorial at Praia do Barril.
