Volcanic Peaks of Flores

Flores is defined by its position on the Pacific Ring of Fire, featuring a chain of active and dormant volcanoes that shape the island's rugged backbone. This collection includes the iconic Kelimutu with its three chemically reactive, color-changing crater lakes, and the distinct twin peaks of Lewotobi. From the perfectly symmetrical cone of Inerie near Bajawa to the expansive caldera lake of Wai Sano, these peaks showcase diverse geological formations including lava domes, sulfurous craters, and high-altitude montane forests.

Kelimutu

Kelimutu is a volcano close to the small town of Moni in central Flores island in Indonesia.

Ili Lewotobi Perempuan

The "female" half of the Lewotobi twin volcano system in eastern Flores. It stands at 1,703 meters and is separated from its "male" counterpart, Laki-laki, by a two-kilometer saddle.

Wolo Bobo

A volcanic hill near Bajawa providing panoramic views of Mount Inerie and the Ngada highlands. It is a known vantage point for observing the morning sea of clouds.

Mount Egon

Mount Egon is a stratovolcano located in the southeastern part of the island of Flores, Indonesia in the area of Maumere bay.

Ebulobo

Also known as Amburombu, this symmetrical 2,124-meter stratovolcano is located in the Nagekeo Regency. Its last major eruption in 1969 left visible lava flows on its northern flank.

Inerie

A prominent pyramid-shaped stratovolcano rising 2,245 meters near Bajawa. It is one of the highest peaks on Flores and features a deep, vegetated crater.

Lewotobi laki laki

The active "male" component of the Lewotobi twin volcanoes. Reaching 1,584 meters, it is more frequently active than its twin, Perempuan, with a history of explosive eruptions.

A volcanic complex featuring a lava dome that emerged during a 1987 eruption. It is situated near Poco Mandasawu, the highest point on the island.

A stratovolcano dominating the eastern tip of Flores near Larantuka. It serves as a major geographical landmark overlooking the Solor Archipelago.

Wai Sano

A large caldera in western Flores containing a 2.5-kilometer-wide sulfurous lake. The surrounding area includes active fumaroles and hot springs within the Sanonggoang forest.
