Regional Heritage Sites

Garachico’s heritage reflects its history as a major port prior to the 1706 volcanic eruption. This collection features 16th-century defensive structures like the Castillo de San Miguel and religious complexes including the Convento de San Francisco. Castillo de San Miguel

A 16th-century square fortress built to defend the port. It is one of the few structures that survived the volcanic eruption of 1706 and now houses a heritage information center.

Church of Santa Ana

The Church of Santa Ana is the main church in Garachico, Tenerife. It is located next to the Plaza de la Libertad.

Convento de la Inmaculada Concepción

A cloistered convent originally founded in 1643. Rebuilt after the 1706 eruption, it features traditional wooden balconies and houses a community of Franciscan Conceptionist nuns.

Convento de San Francisco

A former Franciscan monastery dating back to 1524. It is noted for its two well-preserved cloisters and Mudejar-style coffered ceilings, now serving as a municipal cultural center.

Castillo de San Miguel

A 16th-century defensive tower located on the coast. Constructed from volcanic stone, it survived the 1706 eruption and provides insight into the town's military history.

Puerta de Tierra

A stone archway located in a small park that once marked the entrance to the town's prosperous harbor before it was buried by lava in 1706.

Palacio del Marqués de la Quinta Roja

A 17th-century aristocratic residence featuring a traditional Canarian courtyard and ornate wooden balconies. It reflects the wealth of the town's former merchant class.
