Historic Highlights

Great Yarmouth's maritime and military history is preserved through diverse landmarks spanning two millennia. This collection includes the 2nd-century Caister Roman Village, a Saxon Shore fort, and the 13th-century ruins of Greyfriar's Cloister. The town’s naval significance is marked by the 144-foot Nelson’s Monument and the Time & Tide Museum, housed in a former herring curing works. Coastal heritage is further represented by historic lighthouses at Gorleston and Winterton, alongside the well-preserved 17th-century Row Houses on South Quay.
