Herceg Novi Municipality Must-Sees

Herceg Novi’s strategic position at the entrance of the Bay of Kotor is defined by its extensive defensive architecture, from the 14th-century Forte Mare to the Ottoman-built Kanli Kula and the Spanish-built Španjola fortress. Forte Mare Forte Mare

Founded by King Tvrtko I in 1382, this seaside fortress features defensive walls built between the 14th and 17th centuries. It currently functions as an open-air cinema during the summer.

Kanli Kula Kanli Kula

A 16th-century Ottoman fortress known as the 'Bloody Tower.' It originally served as a prison but was transformed into one of the Adriatic's largest open-air amphitheaters in 1966.

Fort Španjola

Built in 1538 during a brief period of Spanish rule, this fortress sits 170 meters above sea level. Most of the extant massive stone structures date to the subsequent Ottoman reconstruction.

Citadella

The ruins of a Venetian fortification located at the water's edge. Much of the structure was destroyed during the 1979 earthquake, leaving behind weathered stone foundations and sea-facing walls.

An Austro-Hungarian coastal fortification on the Luštica Peninsula. It stands as a companion to Fort Mamula, designed to crossfire against ships entering the bay.

Almara beach

A pebble beach located in Oblatno Bay, featuring clear waters and a serviced beach club.

Žanjice

A pebble beach on the Luštica Peninsula surrounded by olive groves. It is a primary departure point for boat trips to the nearby Blue Cave.

Crkva Svetog Jeronima

This 1856 Catholic church was built on the site of a former mosque. It houses notable 17th-century paintings by Tripo Kokolja and overlooks Trg Mića Pavlovića.
