Jeju's Peaks and Viewpoints
Jeju Island is home to over 300 "oreums"—parasitic volcanic cones formed by eruptions from the central shield volcano, Mt. Hallasan. This collection highlights the island's most significant elevations, from the expansive Sangumburi Crater with its unique temperate vegetation to Saebyeol-Oreum, famous for its silver grass fields. These peaks offer diverse geological features, including the high-altitude crater lake at Sara-Oreum, the red scoria soil of Bulgeun-Oreum, and the rugged crown-shaped ridges of Wanggwanneung on the slopes of Hallasan.
A Mt. Hallasan
Hallasan is a shield volcano comprising much of Jeju Island in South Korea. Its summit, at 1,947 m, is the highest point in the country.
B Sangumburi Crater
A designated natural monument, this flat-crater volcano is approximately 650 meters wide and 100 meters deep. It supports a diverse range of temperate and sub-tropical plant species.
Saebyeol-Oreum
A volcanic cone known for its steep slopes and extensive fields of silver grass. It serves as the primary site for the annual Jeju Fire Festival.
Geum-Oreum
A volcanic cone featuring a circular crater at its summit. Depending on recent rainfall, the crater often contains a small, picturesque pond.
Wisse-Oreum
A series of three volcanic cones on the western slope of Mt. Hallasan, accessible via the Eorimok and Yeongsil hiking trails.
Abuoleum
A volcanic cone with a deep, circular crater planted with a distinctive ring of cedar trees. It is a frequent filming location for Korean cinema.
Doneolioleum
A volcanic cone featuring two distinct craters and unique geological formations resulting from past lava flows.
Sesin Peak
A volcanic peak located in the western highland region of Jeju Island.
Samhyeongje-Saet-Oreum
The middle peak of the "Three Brothers" volcanic cones situated on the western slopes of Mt. Hallasan.
Samhyeongje-Maljet-Oreum
The youngest of the three Samhyeongje volcanic cones located within the Hallasan mountain range.
Bulgeun-Oreum
Named for its red volcanic scoria (song-i) soil, this peak features a well-maintained forest trail and a horseshoe-shaped crater.
Salpin-Oreum
A volcanic cone located near the 1100 Road on the western side of Mt. Hallasan.
Samhyeongje-keun-Oreum
The largest and highest of the three "Samhyeongje" volcanic cones on the western slopes of Hallasan.
Noro-Oreum
A volcanic cone featuring two craters and dense forest cover, located within the protected area of Hallasan National Park.
Naesse-Oreum
A volcanic peak situated in the highland range northwest of the main Hallasan summit.
Cheona-Oreum
A volcanic cone located near the Cheona Valley, an area known for its dramatic rock formations and autumn foliage.
Jeoji-Oreum
A volcanic cone featuring a deep circular crater and dense forest. It was previously awarded the grand prize in South Korea's "Beautiful Forest" contest.
Handae-Oreum
A volcanic cone located deep within the forest of Mt. Hallasan, featuring a small wetland area near its summit.
Keun-noggomae-Oreum
One of the higher oreums on the island, offering panoramic views of the western coastline and the Hallasan summit.
Dang-Oreum
A historically significant volcanic cone where traditional community rituals were historically performed at a local shrine.
Heukbulgeun-Oreum
A volcanic cone on the eastern slope of Mt. Hallasan characterized by its dark, reddish-black volcanic soil.
Wanggwanneung
A rocky peak on the Seongpanak trail of Mt. Hallasan, named for its resemblance to a royal crown.
Samgak-bong
A pyramid-shaped peak on the Gwaneumsa trail of Mt. Hallasan, standing at an elevation of 1,500 meters.
Janggumok-Oreum

Jogeun-noggomae-Oreum
The smaller counterpart to Keun-noggomae, featuring a dense forest of cedar and Japanese larch trees.
Ancheoni-Oreum
A volcanic cone located in the Aewol region, adjacent to the Barimae oreums.
Geomundeulmeok-Oreum
A volcanic cone located in the highland area of Aewol-eup, known for its rugged terrain.
Keun-barimae-Oreum
A prominent volcanic cone with a deep, funnel-shaped crater and views of the surrounding highland pastures.
Dolaeoleum
A small volcanic cone located in the western interior of Jeju Island.
Gwetmul-Oreum
Known for its wide grassy fields and proximity to a natural spring, this site is often used as a grazing area for cattle.
Dol-Oreum
