Religious Heritage

The Tarentaise valley in Savoie preserves a rich concentration of religious architecture, characterized by the flamboyant Baroque style of the 17th and 18th centuries. This collection includes the 11th-century Romanesque Basilique Saint-Martin in Aime, built upon Roman ruins, and several parish churches like Saint-Michel in Landry. These sites are distinguished by their ornate gilded altarpieces, historic frescoes, and traditional stone-and-wood construction, reflecting the spiritual and cultural history of the Alpine communities in the Plagne Tarentaise area.
