Lagos de Covadonga Absolute Essentials

Lagos de Covadonga features a high-mountain landscape within the Picos de Europa National Park. This glacial area includes the permanent Lake Enol and the seasonal Lake Bricial, surrounded by limestone massifs. The site preserves remnants of its industrial past at the Buferrera mines and offers educational exhibits at the Pedro Pidal Visitor Center, which houses a topographic scale model of the range. Numerous viewpoints, such as Mirador de La Picota, provide vistas of the lakes and the surrounding Cantabrian peaks.

Mirador de La Picota

Panoramic viewpoint situated on a ridge between Lake Enol and Lake Ercina, offering elevated views of the glacial landscape and the surrounding massifs.

Lake

Glacial lake located at 1,070 meters elevation. It is the largest in the area and houses a submerged image of the Virgin of Covadonga, which is brought to the surface annually.

Lago Bricial

A seasonal lake and wetland that typically only fills with water during periods of heavy rainfall or significant snowmelt from the surrounding peaks.

Mina de Buferrera

Former iron and manganese mining site operational until 1979. The area includes restored tunnels, tracks, and infrastructure used to transport minerals through the mountains.
