Lagos Must-Sees

Lagos balances its maritime history with a dramatic coastline of limestone formations. The town's heritage is anchored by the 18th-century Igreja de Santo António, famous for its Baroque gilded woodcarvings, and the 15th-century site of Europe's first slave market. Along the shore, the 17th-century Forte da Ponta da Bandeira guards the harbor entrance. Natural landmarks include the iconic rock arches of Praia do Camilo and the sheltered waters of Praia da Batata. For local flavors, the 1924 Mercado Municipal provides fresh Atlantic seafood daily.
