Castles and Forts

Nafplio’s landscape is defined by military architecture spanning from the Bronze Age to the 18th century. This collection features the massive Venetian fortress of Palamidi, the Mycenaean citadel of Tiryns with its UNESCO-listed Cyclopean walls, and the sea-bound Bourtzi castle. From the ancient Acropolis of Asini to the medieval layers of Acronauplia, these sites illustrate the region's strategic importance under Greek, Frankish, Venetian, and Ottoman rule.
