Natural Wonders

Odisha's landscape features a diverse range of water bodies and geological formations. This collection includes the Hirakud Dam, one of the world's longest earthen dams on the Mahanadi River, and the Balimela Reservoir on the Sileru River. The list also highlights significant waterfalls such as the perennial Phurlijharan, the tiered Joranda Falls within Simlipal National Park, and the Duduma waterfall near the Machkund Hydroelectric Project. Near the coast, Chandrabhaga represents a site of historical and religious significance close to the Konark Sun Temple.

Phurlijharan waterfall

Phurlijharan is a perennial waterfall in Bhawanipatna, Kalahandi district, Odisha, India.

Balimela Reservoir

The Balimela Reservoir is located in Malkangiri district, Odisha, India on the river Sileru which is a tributary of the Godavari river.

Duduma waterfall

Located on the Machkund River in the Koraput district, this 175-meter-high waterfall powers the Machkund Hydroelectric Project and is one of the highest waterfalls in India.

Hirakud Dam

Constructed across the Mahanadi River near Sambalpur, this is one of the longest earthen dams in the world. The site features a massive reservoir and the Gandhi Minar observation tower.

Chandrabhaga Lake

Situated near the Konark Sun Temple, this site was historically the mouth of the Chandrabhaga River. It remains a significant religious site for ritual dips during the Magha Saptami festival.

Joranda Falls

A tiered waterfall located within the core area of Simlipal National Park in the Mayurbhanj district. It drops from a height of approximately 150 meters amidst dense forest terrain.
