Pai Essentials
Pai is a mountain valley in Northern Thailand featuring a mix of natural landmarks and cultural sites. This selection includes the White Buddha at Wat Phra That Mae Yen, the 1942 Memorial Bridge, and the unique geological formations at The Land Split. Visitors can explore the 800-meter Kho Ku So Bamboo Bridge over rice fields, the thermal waters of Thapai Hot Springs, and high-altitude viewpoints like Yun Lai and Doi Kiew Lom. The town center provides a nightly walking street market for local food and crafts.
Wat Phra That Mae Yen temple
Known for its massive white Buddha statue perched on a hillside. A staircase of over 300 steps leads to the summit, offering panoramic views of the Pai valley.
World War II Memorial Bridge
An iron bridge constructed by the Japanese in 1942 during World War II to transport troops and supplies to Burma. It spans the Pai River and serves as a historical landmark.
Hyun Lai View Point (Yum Lai Viewpoint)
Located above Santichon Village, this viewpoint offers sunrise vistas over the valley. The site features Chinese-style pavilions and serves traditional tea and steamed buns.
The Land Split
A deep crack in the earth caused by seismic activity in 2008. The site is part of a local farm where visitors can sample home-grown hibiscus juice and dried fruits.
Doi Kiew Lom Viewpoint
A roadside viewpoint on the mountain pass between Pai and Mae Hong Son, offering clear views of the surrounding mountain ranges and seasonal sea of mist.
