Piatra Craiului Must-Sees

Piatra Craiului National Park is defined by the longest and highest limestone ridge in Romania, stretching over 25 kilometers. The landscape is characterized by vertical rock walls, massive scree slopes like Marele Grohotiș, and deep karst canyons including Prăpăstiile Zărneștilor. The area protects diverse flora, including the endemic Piatra Craiului carnation, and provides a network of technical hiking trails connecting peaks like Turnu and Ascuțit with valley attractions like Dâmbovicioara Cave.

Peștera Dâmbovicioara

Karst cave located in the southern part of the massif. It features a 250-meter-long gallery formed by the action of the Dâmbovicioara stream in Jurassic limestone.

Marele Grohotiș

A massive limestone scree slope on the western flank of the ridge. It is one of the most prominent geological features in the Romanian Carpathians.

Dâmbovicioara

Dâmbovicioara is a commune in Argeș County, Muntenia, Romania. It is composed of three villages: Ciocanu, Dâmbovicioara, and Podu Dâmboviței.

Turnu

Mountain peak reaching 1,923 meters at the northern end of the main ridge, offering views of the Zărnești basin.

Ascuțit

Alpine peak at 2,150 meters altitude along the main ridge, featuring a small hemispherical mountain refuge for hikers.

Vlădușca

Mountain peak and surrounding meadow area located on the eastern side of the massif.

A narrow limestone canyon with vertical walls up to 200 meters high. The area is a designated site for rock climbing and hiking.

Cheile Zărneștilor
