Natural Wonders

Sao Tome das Letras is defined by its unique quartzite geology and high-altitude scenery within the Mantiqueira Mountains. This selection highlights the region's distinct formations, including the narrow rock walls of the Devil’s Throat waterfall and the panoramic summits of Pico do Pião and Serra do Bichinho. These sites showcase the area's characteristic 'São Tomé stone' through natural windows like Toca da Pedra Furada and elevated viewpoints overlooking the surrounding valleys.

Devil's Throat

A waterfall situated within a narrow quartzite canyon. The water flows between steep rock walls into a natural pool, located near the Sobradinho district.

Pião

Mountain peak featuring circular stone ruins and 360-degree views of the Mantiqueira range. The summit is accessible via a trail through quartzite fields.

Toca da pedra furada

A natural quartzite rock formation featuring a large circular hole carved by erosion, which serves as a natural frame for the surrounding landscape.
