Albanian Castles and Towers
This collection features defensive structures and religious towers across the Ionian coast and the cross-border region near Sarandë. It includes the Sopot Castle in Borsh, dating back to antiquity, and the Venetian-built Triangular Fortress at Butrint. These sites showcase a mix of Byzantine, Venetian, and Ottoman architectural styles, reflecting centuries of strategic military importance and cultural shifts under rulers like Ali Pasha of Tepelenë.
Kalaja e Borshit
Also known as Sopot Castle, this fortification dates back to the 4th century BC. Located on a hill 500 meters above sea level, the site features walls from the Byzantine era and Ottoman reconstructions commissioned by Ali Pasha in the early 19th century.
