Historic Towers & Memorials

Shaoxing's architectural landscape is defined by its ancient pagodas and memorials dedicated to pivotal historical figures. This collection features the Liang-era Dashan Pagoda and the Ming-style Yingtian Pagoda, alongside monuments honoring revolutionary hero Qiu Jin and Eastern Han water conservancy pioneer Ma Zhen. These sites provide a record of the region's Buddhist heritage, traditional brick-and-wood construction, and its long history of civic and political leadership.

Da shan ta

Originally built during the Liang Dynasty (502–557) and reconstructed in the Song Dynasty, this six-sided, seven-story brick pagoda is a prominent example of early medieval Chinese tower architecture located near Jiefang Road.

Yingtian Pagoda

A seven-story hexagonal pagoda situated atop Tashan Hill. Reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty, the structure features a brick core with wooden eaves and provides views over the historic city center.

Wen bi ta

A slender stone tower traditionally symbolizing literary merit. These "pencil" pagodas were historically erected to bring good fortune to local scholars and students during the imperial examination era.

Yong he ta

A traditional Chinese pagoda located in the southern outskirts of Shaoxing, contributing to the region's historic architectural skyline.

Qiu jin lie shi ji nian bei

A commemorative monument marking the site where revolutionary martyr Qiu Jin was executed in 1907. It stands as a tribute to her leadership in the movement to overthrow the Qing Dynasty.

Ma zhen mu

The burial site of Ma Zhen, the Eastern Han dynasty governor of Kuaiji. He is historically significant for designing and overseeing the construction of the Jianhu Lake water conservancy system in 140 AD.
