Shaxi Essentials

Shaxi remains one of the most intact ancient market towns along the historic Tea Horse Caravan Road. At its heart lies Sideng Square, home to a three-story wooden theater stage and the Ming Dynasty Xingjiao Temple. The town is defined by its traditional Bai architecture, seen in the Ouyang Courtyard and the stone-arched Yujin Bridge. Nearby, the Shizhongshan Grottoes within the Shibao Mountains preserve elaborate Buddhist stone carvings dating back to the Tang and Song dynasties.
