Sigiriya Essentials

Sigiriya, a 5th-century citadel built by King Kashyapa, centers on a 200-meter-high volcanic plug. This UNESCO World Heritage site includes the ruins of a royal palace on the summit, a mid-level terrace guarded by monumental lion's paws, and a series of sheltered frescoes known as the Apsaras. The surrounding landscape features elaborate water gardens, boulder gardens, and defensive moats, while the nearby Pidurangala Rock offers a vantage point overlooking the entire archaeological complex.
