Stolac Highlights

Stolac serves as an open-air museum featuring a dense concentration of historical sites from antiquity through the Ottoman era. This list includes the Hellenistic-style Illyrian ruins of Daorson and the medieval Vidoški fortress overlooking the Bregava river. It also highlights the UNESCO-protected Boljuni necropolises, home to nearly 300 medieval stećci tombstones with unique carvings, and the 18th-century Šarić House, a preserved example of Ottoman residential architecture.

Tvrđava Stolac

A medieval defensive complex situated on the hill above the Bregava river. The fortress features 13 towers and was significantly expanded during the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian periods.

Daorson

Daorson was the capital of the Illyrian tribe of the Daorsi. The Daorsi lived in the valley of the Neretva River between 300 BC and 50 BC.

Nekropola stećaka I i II Boljuni, historijsko područje

Archaeological site containing 274 medieval tombstones. It features the highest concentration of inscriptions in the country and is part of a UNESCO World Heritage designation.

Šarića kuća

An 18th-century Ottoman residential building and national monument. It currently serves as a museum and cultural center, showcasing traditional architecture and local history.

Nekropola stećaka I i II Boljuni

UNESCO-protected necropolis consisting of 274 medieval stećci tombstones. The site is renowned for intricate carvings and epitaphs, many of which are attributed to the master mason Grubač.
