Thiruvananthapuram’s coastline is defined by the unique Cenozoic sedimentary cliffs of Varkala and the crescent-shaped shores of Kovalam. This stretch includes Papanasam Beach, where natural springs emerge from the rock face, and the rocky Azhimala Beach, home to a 58-foot-tall Shiva sculpture. The region features the 35-meter Vizhinjam Lighthouse and the Sagarika Marine Research Aquarium, which showcases the image pearl technique alongside diverse marine life. Where the backwaters meet the sea at Kappil, a narrow road separates the Arabian Sea from the Edava-Nadayara Lake.
