Trieste's Sacred Sites

Trieste’s religious landscape reflects its multicultural history as a major Habsburg port. This selection includes the 11th-century Romanesque Basilica di San Silvestro, the city's oldest church, and the grand 19th-century Serbian Orthodox Saint Spyridon Church with its distinctive blue domes. In the Borgo Teresiano, the neoclassical Sant'Antonio Taumaturgo anchors the Grand Canal, while the Greek Orthodox San Nicolò dei Greci showcases an ornate iconostasis. Further afield, the Gothic San Giovanni in Tuba stands over the subterranean Timavo River.
