Berat

Berat’s religious landscape reflects centuries of coexistence between Islam and Christianity. This collection features architectural landmarks dating from the 13th to the 18th centuries, including the Byzantine Holy Trinity Church and the 15th-century King’s Mosque. Within the UNESCO-listed castle and the historic Mangalem and Gorica quarters, you will find well-preserved Ottoman mosques like the Lead Mosque and the Bachelors' Mosque, alongside the ruins of the Red and White Mosques, which represent some of the earliest Islamic structures in Albania.

Lead Mosque

The Lead Mosque, also known as the Izgurli Mosque, is a 16th-century historical mosque located in Berat, south-central Albania.

Bachelors' Mosque

The Bachelors' Mosque, formerly known as the Sylejman Pasha Mosque, is a Cultural Monument in Berat City, Berat County, Albania.

King’s Mosque

Built in 1492 by Sultan Bayezid II, this mosque is part of a larger Islamic complex that includes a tekke. It features a rare carved wooden ceiling and was designated a Cultural Monument of Albania in 1948.

Halveti Tekke, Berat

The Halveti Tekke is a Cultural Monument of Albania, located in Berat.

Holy Trinity Church

A 13th-century Byzantine church situated on the castle hillside. It features a cross-in-square design with a dome and is recognized for its decorative brickwork and historic inscriptions.

Dormition Cathedral

This 18th-century cathedral houses the Onufri Iconographic Museum. It is famous for its intricate wood-carved iconostasis and a collection of 16th-century icons by the master painter Onufri.

Red Mosque

Dating back to the 15th century, this is one of the oldest mosques in Albania. Located inside the castle, only its distinctive red brick minaret and foundation walls remain standing.

White mosque

A 16th-century ruined mosque located within the castle perimeter. Its remains consist of stone foundations and the lower portion of the minaret, illustrating the early Ottoman presence in the city.
