Peaks and Viewpoints
The Velebit range, Croatia's largest mountain massif, serves as a dramatic limestone barrier between the Mediterranean coast and the Lika highlands. This selection includes the highest summits of the North, Middle, and South Velebit, such as Vaganski Vrh and Šatorina, alongside significant karst formations like the Dabarski Kukovi. These locations offer views of the Adriatic archipelago, the Zrmanja River canyon, and the unique travertine waterfalls of the Una and Korana rivers on the range's eastern edges.
Vaganski vrh
The highest peak of the Velebit massif at 1,757 meters. Located within Paklenica National Park, it offers expansive views across the Lika highlands and the Adriatic archipelago.
Sveto Brdo
At 1,751 meters, this is the second-highest peak in Velebit. It is distinguished by a large metal cross and its prominent position at the southeastern end of the range.
Panorama Canyon
Overlooks the Zrmanja River canyon. This karst landscape is known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and served as a primary filming location for the Winnetou films.
Kiza
A sharp limestone peak in the Dabarski Kukovi ridge. It is a notable site for technical climbing and offers views of the central Velebit forest.
Veliki Zavižan
Located in Northern Velebit National Park, this 1,676-meter peak sits above the Velebit Botanical Garden and Croatia’s highest meteorological station.
View Point
Roadside vista point near Karlobag offering direct views of the Velebit Channel and the stark, moon-like landscape of Pag island.
Mali Vitrenik
A peak in Southern Velebit located near the Vaganski Vrh ascent route, overlooking the rugged karst terrain of the Paklenica hinterland.
Bačić kuk
The highest point of the Dabarski Kukovi ridge at 1,304 meters. It features steep, bare limestone walls characteristic of the Middle Velebit region.
Zečjak
A 1,622-meter peak in Middle Velebit accessible from the Premužić Trail. It provides clear views of the northern Adriatic islands.
Šatorina
The highest peak of Middle Velebit at 1,624 meters, recognizable by its two grassy summits and panoramic views of the sea and inland Lika.
Ozeblin
The highest peak of the Plješivica mountain range (1,657m). It offers a viewpoint over the border between Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Veliki Sadikovac
A 1,286-meter peak near Baške Oštarije known for its diverse flora and views spanning the Velebit Channel to the coastal town of Karlobag.
Štrbački buk 4
Observation point for the largest waterfall on the Una River. The falls drop 24 meters over travertine barriers at the border of Croatia and Bosnia.
Kubus
A cube-shaped stone monument at the Oštarijska Vrata pass (927m). It commemorates the completion of the road across Velebit and marks the climatic divide.
View Korana
Overlooks the limestone canyon of the Korana River, situated near the northern entrance of Plitvice Lakes National Park.
