Scenic Mountain Peaks
This collection features prominent summits across the Southland region, ranging from the 1,692-metre Mitre Peak in Milford Sound to the alpine wetlands of Key Summit on the Routeburn Track. A Mitre Peak
Rising 1,692 metres almost vertically from the waters of Milford Sound, this iconic peak is named for its resemblance to a bishop’s mitre. It is a centerpiece of Fiordland National Park and one of New Zealand's most photographed landmarks.
B Key Summit
An alpine summit located on the Routeburn Track, offering 360-degree views of the Hollyford, Eglinton, and Marian valleys. The peak features a self-guided nature walk through high-altitude wetlands and tarns.
C Rocky Mountain
A 249-metre peak on Stewart Island (Rakiura) providing views over Paterson Inlet and the surrounding rainforest. It is accessible via a hiking trail from Halfmoon Bay.
D Sharks Tooth Hill
A hill located in the Southland region near Winton.
E The Cone
A peak in the Hokonui Hills of Southland, reaching an elevation of approximately 450 metres.
F Ben Bolt
Part of the Hokonui Hills range in Southland, situated near the town of Gore.
G Little Wairio Hill
A summit located in the Southland region near the Wairio and Nightcaps townships.
H Ship Cone
A prominent peak in the Hokonui Hills, rising to 715 metres. Also known as Ōtaupiri, it is a distinct landmark in the Southland landscape.
Mount Grono
Mount Grono, previously spelled Mount Groznoz, is a 1,196-metre peak on Secretary Island, part of New Zealand's Fiordland National Park.
