Originally constructed in 1567 by the Venetians, this structure is the best-preserved entrance into the historic walled city. The architecture reflects a layered history, featuring influences from the Venetian, Ottoman, and British periods. The gate was later restored by the Ottomans and includes various historical tablets.
The building currently houses the Nicosia Tourism Information Office. It functions as a central hub for information and acts as a primary starting point for walking tours through the old city.
The site is characterized by its historical monument status and its proximity to the Atatürk (Turkish field marshal and statesman) statue. It remains a significant landmark within the fortification walls and is open to the public.
