Kecskemét’s cultural landscape is defined by its architectural landmarks and diverse performing arts venues. The center is anchored by the Neo-Baroque Katona József National Theatre, designed by the renowned Fellner and Helmer studio. Complementing this are specialized venues like the Ciróka Bábszínház, known for innovative puppetry, and the Katona József Könyvtár, which serves as the largest library and information hub in Bács-Kiskun County. Together, these institutions host a range of classical, experimental, and regional performances.

Katona József Színház

Designed by Ferdinand Fellner and Hermann Helmer in 1896, this Neo-Baroque building is the city’s primary performance venue. It is named after the Kecskemét-born playwright who authored the Hungarian national drama, Bánk bán.

Ciróka Bábszínház

An internationally recognized puppet theatre offering a repertoire for both children and adults. The venue is known for its creative stagecraft and hosting the biennial International Puppet Festival.

Katona József Könyvtár

The largest public library in Bács-Kiskun County, housed in a modern building opened in 1996. It serves as a regional information hub with extensive collections and dedicated sections for local history.

László Kelemen Chamber Theatre

A chamber venue operating as part of the Katona József National Theatre. It hosts smaller-scale dramatic productions and is named after the leader of the first Hungarian professional theatre troupe.

Ruszt József Stúdió Színház

An intimate studio space dedicated to experimental performances and contemporary plays. It functions as part of the city's national theatre network and honors the legacy of influential director József Ruszt.
