Heritage of Tongeren

Tongeren, Belgium's oldest city, preserves a dense concentration of Roman and medieval heritage. This collection features the UNESCO-listed Basilica of Our Lady and the foundations of a Gallo-Roman temple complex. The surrounding landscape is defined by ancient burial mounds (tumuli) in Koninksem and Genoelselderen, alongside architectural landmarks like the 14th-century Donjon of Rutten and the Beguinage church of Sint-Catharina.
