Historic Sites of Asilah

Asilah's historic core is defined by its well-preserved Portuguese fortifications dating back to the late 15th century. This collection highlights the city's defensive architecture, including the square Al Qamra Tower and the massive ramparts of Borj Al Kasabah. Significant entry points like Bab el Bahr and Bab Al Homar showcase original Portuguese stonework and heraldry, while the early 20th-century Palais Rassouni provides an example of grand Moorish residential architecture within the coastal medina.

Al Qamra Tower

A square stone watchtower built by the Portuguese in the late 15th century. It overlooks the medina's main square and served as a primary defensive lookout.

Borj Al Kasabah

A defensive bastion located at the northeastern corner of the medina walls, offering elevated views over the port and the Atlantic coastline.

Borj Sidi Al Assili

A fortified tower integrated into the medina's sea-facing ramparts, forming part of the original 15th-century Portuguese defensive circuit.

Bab el Bahr

Also known as the Sea Gate, this Portuguese-era portal provides direct access from the fortified medina to the harbor area.

Bab Al Homar
