Heritage Sites in Prora

This collection highlights the architectural and archaeological heritage of Rügen's coast, centered on the Colossus of Prora. Built between 1936 and 1939 as a Nazi 'Strength through Joy' (KdF) resort, the 4.5-kilometer complex remains one of the world's largest examples of National Socialist architecture. The list covers various surviving blocks and the ruins of the planned seaside promenade. In contrast to these modern remains, the site also includes the Großsteingrab Sieben Brüder, a series of ancient megalithic burial mounds dating back to the Neolithic period.

Prora

The Colossus of Prora, commonly known as simply "Prora", is a building complex in the municipality of Binz on the island of Rügen, Germany.

Prora - North Block 3

A northern section of the 4.5-kilometer-long KdF resort complex. This block provides a view into the scale of the unfinished project, with portions remaining in a ruinous state that highlights the original concrete construction.

Prora - South Block

Prora - North Block 2

Part of the massive modular structure designed by architect Clemens Klotz. This section illustrates the uniform design intended to provide 20,000 workers with identical sea-view rooms as part of the Nazi regime's mass tourism program.

Prora - South Block 2

A southern segment of the monumental seaside resort. This block demonstrates the functionalist, repetitive architectural style used throughout the complex to create a standardized environment for organized state leisure.

Ruine Strandpromenade KdF-Anlage Prora

The structural remains of the planned seaside promenade and central festival grounds. These ruins mark the intended social hub of the complex, where grand community facilities were designed to meet the Baltic shore.

Großsteingrab Sieben Brüder

A group of Neolithic megalithic tombs, or dolmens, located in the forest near the Prora complex. Known as the 'Seven Brothers,' these ancient stone burial sites date back thousands of years to the Funnelbeaker culture.
