Caves of the Crimean Mountains

The Crimean Mountains house a complex network of subterranean systems, primarily concentrated on the Chatyr-Dag and Ai-Petri massifs. This collection features diverse geological formations, from the vast multi-level chambers of the Red Cave (Kyzyl-Koba) to the perennial ice deposits of Trehglazka. Significant archaeological sites, including the Neanderthal remains at Kiik-Koba, provide insight into prehistoric human activity. Emine Bayır Hasar

Vertical karst cave on the Chatyr-Dag massif featuring a multi-level system. It is notable for well-preserved paleontological finds, including mammoth and woolly rhinoceros remains.

Krasnaa

Also known as Kyzyl-Koba, this is the largest cave system in the peninsula, extending over 21 kilometers. It features the subterranean river Su-Uchkhan and six distinct geological levels.

Kiik-Koba

A significant Paleolithic site where archaeologists discovered Neanderthal remains and flint tools. This shallow grotto served as a shelter for early humans during the Mousterian period.

Skelskaa pesera

Located in the Baydar Valley, this cave is a nature monument known for its vertical orientation and impressive calcite formations, including a seven-meter-high stalagmite.

Trehglazka

A perennial ice cave situated on the Ai-Petri plateau. It maintains a constant near-freezing temperature, preserving a large central snow cone and thick floor ice year-round.

Geofiziceskaa

A karst cave on the Ai-Petri plateau featuring a 28-meter vertical entrance shaft. It is characterized by vibrant dripstone formations and a spacious chamber known as the Green Gallery.

Bezdonna krinica

A vertical karst shaft on the Chatyr-Dag plateau reaching a depth of 161 meters. The cave features a massive entrance funnel and perennial snow deposits at its base.

Pesera MAN

Located on the western slope of Demerdzhi, this cave consists of two levels. It was named after the Junior Academy of Sciences and contains traces of ancient ritual use.

Korovij grot

A scenic grotto located in the Bakhchisaray district, frequently used as a landmark for hikers exploring the Grand Canyon of Crimea region.

Altinskaa

Discovered in 1997 on the Ai-Petri plateau, this cave features well-preserved stalactites and stalagmites. It is part of a cluster of accessible karst formations near the mountain summit.

Emine-Bair-Koba

A karst cave on the Chatyr-Dag lower plateau, part of the extensive Emine-Bair system. It is characterized by narrow passages and diverse mineral formations.

Hod Konem

A deep karst shaft on Chatyr-Dag with a total depth of 217 meters. It is known among speleologists for its complex vertical structure and technical difficulty.
