Natural Wonders of Flores

Flores features a diverse landscape ranging from the limestone chambers of Liang Bua, where the prehistoric Homo floresiensis was discovered, to the megalithic stone shrines of Kampung Adat Bena. The island's volcanic activity feeds the Malanage Hot Springs, while the Mbeliling forest and Moni region house significant cascades like Cunca Rami and Murukeba. These sites offer insight into the island's archaeological significance and its unique geological formations, including the fossil-rich walls of Batu Cermin.

Liang Bua cave (Hobbit cave)

Large limestone cave and archaeological site where remains of the prehistoric human species Homo floresiensis were discovered in 2003.

Kampung Adat Bena

Traditional megalithic village featuring two rows of thatched-roof houses and stone shrines, ngadhu and bhaga, dedicated to ancestral spirits. Located at the base of Mount Inerie.

Batu Cermin Cave

Limestone formation where sunlight reflects off salt crystals on the walls. The cave contains fossilized coral and sea turtles, evidence of the area once being underwater.

Malanage Hot Springs

Geothermal site where a hot volcanic stream meets a cold river, allowing for adjustable swimming temperatures in a natural jungle setting.

Air Terjun Cunca Rami

A 30-meter waterfall situated within the Mbeliling forest, accessible via a trek through local agricultural fields and tropical jungle.
